Movie Night: Un Buda - August 16th @ 6pm
Un Buda tells the story of the spiritual journeys of two Argentine brothers who respond very differently to the childhood trauma of witnessing the kidnapping/murder by the government of their father, who had been a Zen Buddhist. Eventually, everyone in their lives is brought to confront, via Zen wisdom and practice, the questions of ultimate meaning and identity. Many of the words of the Zen master in the film are lifted directly from famous Zen texts, and are made to resonate anew by being set in this dramatic context. The script and the acting show great psychological sensitivity and attunement to the profound spiritual issues being dealt with, issues that all of us must face in our own lives. The film will offer an excellent springboard for our post-screening discussion. This event will be a wonderful opportunity to realize your own Buddhahood.
